How to earn rank in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Robson Moura

How long does it take to earn rank in  Jiu Jitsu? That is a great question that can not be easily answered. The best answer is as long as it takes. There is an old saying a black belt is a white belt that doesn’t quit.

Robson is very traditional in his promotions and will want to get to know you as a person and martial artists in addition to getting to know your skill level. He will consider your age, size, and understanding during his evaluation.

For adults Robson uses a ranking system that follows this format:

White, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black

For those under 16 years old Robson uses a ranking system that follows this format:

White, Yellow, Orange, Green

Robson or one of his appointed black belts will recommend you for promotion. Once this happens you will be scheduled for a 2 hour evaluation. During that evaluation Robson will drill and spar with you. If you fulfill his requirements you will be promoted. There is no guarantee of promotion during this 2 hour private evaluation. After the evaluation you will either be promoted or be given specific recommendations for training to progress toward your promotion.
